Holding crypto positions over the weekend at a prop firm: funding fees and the accounts that force a close

Yes, you can hold crypto positions over the weekend at all 28 crypto prop firms PropRubric tracks, at least on evaluation accounts, and 11 attach a condition: a funding charge, a forced-close account type, a trading window or a profit rule. The 17 other firms publish no weekend condition, and the table below gives every firm’s rule, fee and forced-close account type from its own pages.

Every row is the firm’s own rule on the date in the last column, read from its rules page, FAQ or terms, and the six rows dated 20 October 2026 closed the gaps PropRubric’s database carried until this page was written. Seventeen of the 28 firms publish no weekend condition of any kind.

The 11 that do are the subject of the sections below: what holding costs, how the rules run on a 24/7 market, the four kinds of condition, and the account types that must close before the weekend. What “holding over the weekend” means on a market that never closes is the first thing to settle.

What does holding a position over the weekend mean at a crypto prop firm?

Holding a position over the weekend is a different question in crypto than in forex, because the crypto market does not close. Marcel Hambálek, a senior trader at For Traders, writes in the firm’s guide “How to Trade Bitcoin with a Prop Firm Account” that crypto CFDs and perpetual-style instruments “trade through the weekend while CME Bitcoin futures close Friday afternoon and reopen Sunday evening”. The same guide puts weekend bitcoin liquidity at “a fraction of the weekday book”.

Hambálek calls funding on a held perpetual position “the cost nobody budgets for”, small per interval but compounding, and that cost is what the question comes down to at a prop firm. How much two held days cost is the next calculation.

How much does holding crypto over the weekend cost?

Holding crypto over the weekend at a prop firm costs between $0 and $10 per $10,000 of position value in funding charges, and the cost that ends accounts is not the fee but a weekend price move counted against the daily loss limit.

Formula

weekend funding cost = position value × daily funding rate × days held over the weekend example: $10,000 of BTC × 0.033% × 2 days = $6.60 at Kraken Prop, Tradeify 247 or WenCrypto; × 0.05% × 2 days = $10.00 at Velotrade

Four firms publish a fixed daily rate, and the two rates set the range. Velotrade charges 0.05% of a crypto position’s value a day on positions open at its 00:30 UTC reset, weekends included, which is $5.00 a day and $10.00 for a Saturday and a Sunday on $10,000 of bitcoin. Kraken Prop charges 0.033% a day in margin funding, taken every four hours, Tradeify 247 charges 0.033% of position value a day at 22:00 UTC with weekends included, and WenCrypto deducts 0.033% a day at 00:15 UTC.

The three rates are $3.30 a day and $6.60 for the weekend on the same $10,000 position. A three-day holiday weekend raises the two figures to $15.00 and $9.90, and a $100,000 position multiplies each by ten.

The daily drawdown is where the weekend costs more than a fee in crypto prop challenges. Bitcoin’s daily close moved 5% or more on 16 days in the 365 days to 29 September 2026, per the Coinbase bitcoin series published by the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis (FRED, CBBTCUSD), and 3% or more on 55 of them. A 5% move against a $10,000 bitcoin position is a $500 loss, which breaches a 3% daily limit of $300 or a 4% limit of $400 on a $10,000 account before Monday.

The limit is measured on live equity at most crypto firms, so the position does not have to be closed to count. The sizing that survives a weekend is a position small enough that a 5% move stays inside the daily drawdown in crypto prop challenges, which on a 3% limit means a bitcoin position of no more than 60% of the account’s value.

The same arithmetic for your own account, limit and reset runs on the prop firm drawdown calculator for crypto challenges.

How does holding over the weekend work on a 24/7 crypto market?

Holding over the weekend on a 24/7 crypto market works by running every daily rule through Saturday and Sunday. Three mechanics follow: the daily reset fires on both days, funding settles at fixed intervals while you are away, and thin weekend liquidity widens the price a stop fills at.

momentwhat happens to a held positionexample on a $10,000 account, 3% daily limit
Friday 22:00 UTCa position opened before the weekend is marked at the firm’s reset; Tradeify 247 takes its 0.033% funding charge herefloor for the next 24 hours: $9,700
Saturday 00:00 to 00:30 UTCthe resets at HyroTrader, HyperPNL, Breakout, Kraken Prop, Velotrade and most crypto-first firms fire as on a weekday; Velotrade charges 0.05% on anything open at 00:30 UTCa new floor is set from Saturday’s balance or equity
Saturday and Sunday, every 8 hoursBybit settles perpetual funding at 00:00, 08:00 and 16:00 UTC on 8-hour contracts; Hyperliquid pays funding every hour6 Bybit settlements or 48 Hyperliquid settlements before Monday
Sunday 00:00 to 00:30 UTCthe second weekend reset; a Saturday loss is now inside Sunday’s daya 2% Saturday loss and a 2% Sunday loss are two days inside the limit, not one breach
Monday 00:00 UTCthe position has lived through two resets and up to six funding settlementsthe trader has been away for all of them

Firstly, the daily reset runs on both weekend days, so a bad weekend can cost two daily allowances or one, depending on when the loss falls against the firm’s reset time. Hambálek’s guide makes the same point about a held weekend move: “that detail decides whether a bad weekend move eats one day’s limit or bleeds across two”. Secondly, funding settles on a fixed schedule whether or not you are watching: every eight hours at 00:00, 08:00 and 16:00 UTC on Bybit’s 8-hour contracts, per Bybit’s help centre, and every hour on Hyperliquid, per its docs.

An account connected to either exchange sees six or 48 settlements between Saturday and Monday, and a firm that charges its own fixed rate, such as Kraken Prop every four hours, replaces that schedule with its own.

Finally, weekend liquidity is thinner, which Hambálek describes as the same order moving price “two or three times as much on Saturday”, so a stop placed for a weekday book can fill well past its price. The four ways firms respond to those mechanics are the next list.

What are the four ways prop firms treat weekend crypto positions?

Prop firms treat weekend crypto positions in four ways, and 11 of the 28 firms PropRubric tracks use at least one of them.

  1. A daily funding charge that runs on weekend days. Velotrade, Kraken Prop, Tradeify 247 and WenCrypto publish a fixed rate. Crypto Fund Trader charges a platform swap at 00:00 UTC on MT5 and 22:00 UTC on Match-Trader and passes Bybit’s own funding rate through on its Bybit account, and PropW charges an internal rate from its own long and short positions without publishing the amount.
  2. An account type or holding limit that forces a close. FTMO’s funded Standard account must be flat before the weekend market close, and FundingPips closes every Master-account trade daily unless the Swing add-on was bought and makes Zero accounts flat before the weekend. Bitfunded closes any position after 10 days on major crypto and 7 days on other crypto, and PropW closes every position 10 calendar days after it opened, weekends included.
  3. A weekend trading window. RebelsFunding lets a crypto position stay open through the weekend but opens no new crypto trade on Saturday or Sunday, and Upscale force-closes index positions opened in the Friday close window while leaving crypto untouched.
  4. A profit rule around the weekend. Goat Funded Trader removes, on funded accounts, the profit of any trade opened in Friday’s last three hours and closed in Monday’s first three hours, so the weekend gap cannot be traded for a payout.

The first kind costs money on every weekend, the second kind can close a winning position, and the third and fourth kinds only bind the trader who opens or closes inside the window. Which firms fall into which kind, with the ones that publish nothing at all, is the count that follows.

Which crypto prop firms charge for or restrict weekend positions?

Eleven crypto prop firms charge for or restrict weekend crypto positions, and 17 publish no weekend condition, out of the 28 firms in the table at the top of this page.

  • Six firms charge a weekend funding fee: Velotrade at 0.05% a day, and Kraken Prop, Tradeify 247 and WenCrypto at 0.033% a day. Crypto Fund Trader charges through a platform swap or Bybit’s funding rate, and PropW through an unpublished internal rate.
  • Four firms force a close on some or all accounts: FTMO on the funded Standard type, FundingPips on Master accounts without the Swing add-on and on Zero accounts, Bitfunded after 10, 7 or 5 days by asset, and PropW after 10 calendar days on every position.
  • One firm restricts the window and one the profit: RebelsFunding blocks new crypto trades at weekends, and Goat Funded Trader removes profit from funded-account trades that straddle the Friday close and the Monday open.
  • Seventeen firms publish no condition: Breakout, HyroTrader, Fundedbit, HyperPNL, Propr, SizeProp, Klein Funding, Mubite, Cointracts, TradeXProp, Upscale on crypto, Dolvero, E8 Markets, The5ers, BrightFunded, AquaFunded and Funded Trader Markets.

PropW appears in the first two groups because it both charges a rate and closes positions after 10 days, so the four groups sum to 12 entries for 11 firms. “No condition” means the firm’s rules, FAQ and terms say nothing beyond permission, and six of the 17 were re-read on 20 October 2026 to confirm it.

HyroTrader’s agreement lists overnight and weekend positions as “Permitted”, and Fundedbit’s help centre states that “there are no overnight swap fees involved in any of our accounts”.

A firm with no condition still runs its daily limit and reset through the weekend, and the habits below are how a position gets through both.

How do you hold crypto over the weekend without breaking a rule?

You hold crypto over the weekend without breaking a rule with five habits, and each one follows from a cost or a mechanic on this page.

  1. Size the position so a 5% weekend move stays inside the daily limit. On a 3% limit that is a bitcoin position of at most 60% of the account’s value, and on a 4% limit at most 80%. The breach is measured on live equity while you are away.
  2. Count the funding charge before you hold. Add 0.033% or 0.05% a day of the position’s value at the firms that publish a rate, and the exchange’s funding settlements at Bybit- or Hyperliquid-connected firms, and treat the total as part of the trade’s cost.
  3. Check the account type, not just the firm. FTMO’s Swing type and FundingPips’ Swing add-on exist because the Standard and Master types must be flat, so a trader who plans to hold buys the type that allows it before the first weekend.
  4. Know the firm’s holding limit in hours. Bitfunded counts its 10-day and 7-day limits “in exact hours” and PropW counts 10 calendar days including weekends, so a position opened on a Wednesday evening has its closing hour fixed before the weekend starts.
  5. Avoid the Friday and Monday windows at Goat Funded Trader. A funded trade opened in Friday’s last three hours and closed in Monday’s first three hours keeps its loss and loses its profit, so a weekend hold there opens before Friday’s final three hours.

The habits keep a held position inside the rules at the 17 firms with no condition and the six with a fee, and the remaining account types are the ones that do not allow the hold at all.

Which prop firms make you close crypto positions before the weekend?

Two prop firms make you close crypto positions before the weekend on specific account types, FTMO on the funded Standard type and FundingPips on Master accounts without the Swing add-on and on Zero accounts, and no crypto-first firm does.

FTMO’s rule is written for markets that close: a funded Standard account must close positions “shortly before the markets close for the weekend or if the rollover (market break) lasts longer than 2 hours”. FTMO’s crypto CFDs, meanwhile, list Saturday and Sunday sessions with breaks of 10 and 70 minutes. PropRubric reads that as a rule the two-hour trigger does not fire for crypto on the published hours, so a funded Standard account may hold crypto through a normal weekend but must close before an announced maintenance window longer than two hours.

FTMO support is the place to confirm it before the first weekend. FundingPips calls its Master-account rule “the temporary weekend restriction”, closes open trades every day at 20:45–21:00 UTC in summer and 21:45–22:00 UTC in winter unless the 10% Swing add-on was bought, and terminates a Zero account that holds a position into the weekend close. A crypto trade opened and closed entirely over the weekend does not count as a trading day there.

RebelsFunding sits beside the two: a crypto position may stay open, but no new crypto trade opens at the weekend and its daily break runs 23:56 to 00:06 UTC+3. Every one of those rules is one column when the rulebooks are compared side by side, the weekend column of crypto prop firm rules compared across all 28 firms.

That column is one of the eight rule kinds by which the best firms are separated from the rest in PropRubric’s ranking of the best crypto prop firms.
