Crypto Prop Firm Position Size Calculator: Risk per Trade
The position size calculator gives the largest trade your crypto prop challenge allows from your risk per trade, your stop distance and the firm’s rules. The per-trade loss cap, the daily limit and the BTC leverage are filled from presets for all 28 crypto prop firms PropRubric tracks, and it names the rule that limits the size.
Calculator
Worked example (static values when JavaScript is off). A $10,000 HyroTrader One-Step account, risk 0.5% ($50), entry $60,000, stop $58,800 (2%), fees 0.08% round trip, daily limit 4% ($400 of room), no per-trade cap: the risk setting binds, and the position is $2,404 of notional (0.0401 BTC). The margin is $16 at the preset’s 150x or $240 at 10x, and the loss at the stop is $50, which uses 13% of today’s room.
How do you use the position size calculator?
The position size calculator needs seven inputs, and a firm preset fills the four rule values.
- Pick a firm preset to load the per-trade cap, its basis, the daily limit and the BTC leverage.
- Enter your account size and your risk per trade as a percentage; 0.5% is the default and 1% is the common ceiling.
- Enter the entry price and the stop price; the distance between them sets the size.
- Set the leverage the venue applies and the round-trip fee, 0.08% at Breakout and Bitfunded, 0.11% for a Bybit non-VIP taker both ways.
- Enter today’s room left in dollars from the drawdown calculator, or leave it blank for the full daily limit.
- Check the funded exposure caps if you trade a funded HyroTrader account: 25% of the starting balance as margin, 2× as notional.
- Read the position, the margin, the loss at the stop and the rule that limited the size.
The seven inputs feed one formula and three limits.
How is position size calculated?
Position size at a crypto prop firm is calculated as the risk you can afford on the trade divided by the stop distance plus fees. The risk you can afford is the smallest of three numbers: your own risk setting, the firm’s per-trade cap and today’s remaining daily room.
Formula
risk budget = min(account × risk %, cap basis × per-trade cap %, today’s room left) position (notional) = risk budget ÷ (stop distance % + round-trip fee %) units = notional ÷ entry price margin = notional ÷ leverage funded caps: notional ≤ starting balance × notional cap; margin ≤ starting balance × margin cap
Trndtools’ calculator, the page that ranks for the query, gives the first line only: “position size = (balance × risk %) ÷ (entry − stop)”, which on a $10,000 account at 1% with a $60,000 entry and a $58,800 stop is 0.0833 BTC. A crypto prop account adds the two limits that bind before the risk setting does. The first limit is the per-trade cap: Mubite’s 3% on the equity when the trade opens, Dolvero’s 2%, and Fundedbit’s 2% of open risk per pair.
The second limit is the daily room, which shrinks with every loss of the day. The fee is counted inside the risk of each loss, because a stop that fires after a 0.08% round trip loses the distance plus the fee, and the leverage decides the margin, not the size. The size that comes out is a dollar figure, and three bands say whether it is a sensible one.
What does your result mean?
Your result is the loss at the stop as a share of today’s room, and three bands tell you what the size means.
| share of today’s room | what it means | what to do |
|---|---|---|
| under 25% | four losses in a row stay inside the day | trade the size; this is PropRubric’s rule of thumb for a crypto challenge |
| 25% to 50% | two or three losses end the day | halve the size, or widen nothing and take fewer trades |
| over 50% | one or two losses end the day | the stop is too wide for the account or the risk % is too high; size down before the entry |
| the per-trade cap binds | the firm’s cap is smaller than your risk setting | the cap is the rule; the leverage and the risk % are not |
The binding limit is the row to read. On a Mubite or Dolvero account the per-trade cap binds first for any risk setting above it, and on a HyroTrader, Breakout, Crypto Fund Trader or Propr account only the daily room and your own setting apply. That is why the leverage each firm offers matters less than the cap, as the list of the highest-leverage crypto prop firms shows pair by pair.
How big can a BTC position be on a $10,000 HyroTrader account?
A BTC position on a $10,000 HyroTrader account can be $5,000 of notional at 1% risk and a 2% stop, and the daily limit and the funded caps bind at different stages.
The example is one firm’s daily limit and funded caps; the preset table below carries the cap, its basis and the leverage for every firm.

Six firms publish a cap on one trade (Mubite, Dolvero, Fundedbit, RebelsFunding, Funded Trader Markets and FundingPips’ policy), and twenty-one publish none. At those twenty-one firms the daily room and your own risk setting are the only limits, and every value is the firm’s own. The calculator assumes your stop fills at its price within those limits; a real fill can differ when the market gaps.
What doesn’t the calculator include?
The calculator does not include four things, and each one can turn a sized trade into a larger loss.
- Slippage on the stop, which on a thin altcoin or a weekend candle can land the fill past the per-trade cap.
- Funding payments on a perpetual held across a funding mark, every eight hours on Bybit and hourly on Hyperliquid.
- Position caps per market at Breakout and Kraken Prop, which limit the notional of one market rather than the loss.
- Correlated positions, which the firms count as one exposure under their hedging rules while the calculator sizes one trade.
Every calculator on the site, including the ones for drawdown, consistency and the payout, is listed on the hub of crypto prop firm calculators. Which firms cap one trade and on what basis is on the page about stop-loss and per-trade loss rules at crypto prop firms. The daily room the calculator divides is defined, with each firm’s reset, on the page about daily drawdown in crypto prop challenges.
