Prop Firm Drawdown Calculator: Trailing and Static Limits

The prop firm drawdown calculator gives your daily floor, your maximum floor and the dollars you can still lose today for any crypto prop challenge. The daily reference, the reset time and the maximum type (static, trailing, trailing end-of-day or trail-then-lock) are filled from 71 plan presets across the 28 crypto prop firms PropRubric tracks.

Calculator

Worked example (static values when JavaScript is off). A $10,000 Crypto Fund Trader 1-Phase account: daily limit 4% from the balance at 00:05 UTC, maximum 6% trailing from the highest balance, locking at the starting balance once the account is up 6%. Balance at the reset $10,000, highest balance $10,400, current equity $10,250: daily floor $9,600 until 00:05 UTC, maximum floor $9,776, room today $650, room to the maximum $474, so the maximum limit binds and you can lose $474 more.

How do you use the drawdown calculator?

The drawdown calculator needs six inputs, and a firm preset fills the four rule values so you type only your account numbers.

  1. Pick a firm preset, or leave “Manual” and enter your own rule values.
  2. Enter your account size, the starting balance the firm funded.
  3. Check the daily limit, its reference and the reset time the preset filled: the reference is the start-of-day balance at most crypto firms, and the equity at the reset at HyperPNL, FTMO and HyroTrader, which takes the equity at 00:00 UTC on every challenge.
  4. Check the maximum limit and its type: static, trailing, trailing end-of-day, or trails-then-locks with the gain at which it locks.
  5. Enter today’s numbers: the balance at the last reset, today’s highest balance if your daily limit trails, your highest balance ever if your maximum trails, and your current equity.
  6. Read the two floors, the room under each and the sentence, which names the limit that binds.

The six inputs are the ones the formula uses, and the formula is the same at every firm with two choices inside it.

How is drawdown calculated?

Drawdown at a crypto prop firm is calculated as a reference figure minus the firm’s percentage. Two choices decide the result: what the reference is for the daily limit, and whether the maximum floor stays fixed, follows the high or follows the high and then locks.

Formula

daily floor = daily reference × (1 − daily limit %) static maximum floor = starting balance × (1 − maximum %) trailing maximum floor = highest balance × (1 − maximum %) trail-then-lock floor = highest balance × (1 − maximum %), capped at the starting balance once highest balance ≥ starting balance × (1 + lock gain %) room = current equity − floor

Five variables carry the calculation, and the first is the reference. The daily reference is the balance at the reset (Breakout excludes open positions; Crypto Fund Trader uses the balance at 00:05 UTC), the equity at the reset (HyperPNL, FTMO, HyroTrader) or the previous day’s equity (TradeXProp). The reset time is the moment the daily reference is taken, from 00:00 UTC to 5 PM New York time, and it is the moment the balance is read.

The starting balance fixes a static floor for the life of the account. The highest balance moves a trailing floor up and never down, measured on equity for intraday trailing and on the closed balance for end-of-day trailing (Breakout Spark, Kraken Prop Lite, FTMO 1-step).

The lock gain is the gain at which a trail-then-lock floor stops at the starting balance, 6% at Crypto Fund Trader’s 1-Phase, 4% at E8 One, 8% at Propr’s 2-Step, 3% at Klein Funding’s Instant Pro. The room under each floor is the number to act on.

What does your result mean?

Your result is the room under each floor in dollars, and three bands tell you what to do with it.

room under the binding floorwhat it meanswhat to do
more than 75% of the allowance leftthe day or the account is freshtrade your plan; size each trade so four losses stay inside the room
25% to 75% leftone or two more losses end the day or the accountcut size; close before the reset if your reference is equity-based
under 25% leftthe next ordinary move can breachstop for the day; on a static floor the room returns with profit, on a trailing floor it does not
at or below the floora breach at every firm that publishes the rulethe account ends; a reset or a new challenge is the only route

The binding floor is the one with less room, and on most crypto 1-step plans it is the daily floor in the morning and the trailing maximum floor after a good week. A static maximum never shrinks the room, which is why the firms whose floors stay put are ranked on the list of crypto prop firms without trailing drawdown.

What happens to a trailing drawdown after a 5% BTC day?

A 5% BTC day moves a trailing maximum floor up by 5% of the gain and leaves a static floor where it was, and the Crypto Fund Trader presets show the difference on the same $100,000 account.

The example is the reason the same strategy passes one plan and fails the other at one firm, and the preset table below carries the type for every plan.

Which crypto prop firms use which drawdown rule?

The calculator carries 71 plan presets across 28 crypto prop firms, and the table is the list of them with the values the preset fills.

Fifty-five plans carry a static maximum, three a trailing one, four an end-of-day trailing one and nine a trail-then-lock floor, and seven firms publish no reset time. Every value is the firm’s own, and “type not published” plans are shown as static with a note. The calculator assumes the firm measures the breach on equity and rounds nothing; real accounts can differ when the firm’s own clock, fees or soft breaches apply.

What doesn’t the calculator include?

The calculator does not include five things, and each one can move a real floor by a few dollars.

  • Funding payments on open perpetuals, every eight hours on Bybit and every hour on Hyperliquid, which lower equity without a price move.
  • Trading fees inside the account, 0.04% per side at Breakout and Bitfunded, which the firm deducts from the balance.
  • The firm’s own rounding and clock, including daylight-saving shifts for firms on a New York or Central European reset.
  • Soft breaches and reviews, such as HyroTrader’s one formal warning before a second breach of its funded exposure caps fails the funded stage, which are not floors.
  • Withdrawals, which lower a static floor’s distance at Breakout by the gross amount and reset Propr’s trailing floor.

Every calculator on the site, including the ones for position size, consistency and the payout, is listed on the hub of crypto prop firm calculators. The difference between a static and a trailing floor on the same trades is the worked example above, and the reset times and references of every firm are on the page about daily drawdown in crypto prop challenges.
